Smoking, Saigon 2010 1/4

Posted by larry (somewhere in, Singapore) on 26 May 2010 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

I encountered a war veteran in Saigon, sitting in his son's shop, having a smoke. He spoke very little English, but managed to tell me that he fought the Viet Cong, before asking if I speak French. (I don't)
I looked at him puffing away in nonchalance, and noticed his deformed left hand, probably due to diabetes. Instinctively I wanted to tell him that smoking is bad for his health, but I realized it was rather pointless. He's 82 after all.
Funny how old age opens up doors for mischief.

Thanks for dropping by.
